Think you were the only person in the room who knew what the hell it was. The rest were too afraid to ask.

Dog Faced Boyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13658799364682087952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7650768303543004296.post-19310743749540976852013-08-07T12:01:21.112-07:002013-08-07T12:01:21.112-07:00Without getting too bogged down in the "can t...Without getting too bogged down in the "can the doctor be a woman" malarky I think purely on a casting front Capaldi as an older Doctor is a brave choice.

The growing and profitable US market for instance may baulk at a less hunky, runny jumpy Doctor like we have had since the reboot. A certain part of the fanbase will rankle with having a 55 year old (what? that's dead isn't it?) doing none of the usual being fancied by the assistant.

Yes of course the PC thugs cry, it should have been a one legged lesbian Nigerian BUT we're not after tokenism here. We want someone who can do exciting things with the part. I'm not saying a black guy/woman who is gay/bi/trans couldn't be brilliant in the role but to suggest that Capaldi is a safe, predictable choice in the current TV market is naive.

And get in a female showrunner and all female writers - why should that necessarily make the show significantly different? Again tokenism for the sake of it.

The classic series had a hideous record on using female talent - I think only one solo female writer in 26 years and only a couple of female directors. Well we all know what the BBC was like back then.

BTW there is no such term as 'Time Lady' in the show's history I believe. That term was created by the media and fans. They are all Time Lords regardless of physical appearance.

Also re: the 13 regenerations, Rustie in one of the Sarah Jane Adventures had the Doctor saying he could regenerate 507 times. So thats it, just as canonical as the previous '13' is.

From what I know the series is changing with the new older Doctor.

-more focus on the Doctor, his character, his history rather than seeing everything from the assistant's POV
- less snogging and being focus of assistants gooey eyes
- the 1st episode of Capadi's series will beginning 2 years after his regeneration with Clara still in tow
- they are aiming for a younger audience (what that means in TV speak I do not know)

But despite all that, to steal from another sci- fi series 'If you're wondering how he eats and breathes and other science facts. Keep telling youself "its just a show" and you should really just relax'Dog Faced Boyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13658799364682087952noreply@blogger.com
